Select ONE of the questions proposed in the list below and answer it in essay format in approximately 750 words.  Use in-text citations in MLA format when necessary.  Questions  1) Winston Churchill once famously said, “Appeasement is feeding the crocodile, hoping that it will eat you last.” Do you agree with his statement? What is the difference between appeasement and compromise? Should we never negotiate with our enemies? Compare the beginning of World War II with several other major conflicts in the twentieth or twenty-first centuries. Was appeasement used? Could negotiations have helped? 2) Even during the war, the Western Allies had intelligence reports about Nazi concentration camps, and some officials suggested that they be bombed. In the end, military leaders did not divert the bombers from their normal missions, and the camps continued to exterminate people right up to the day they were captured by Allied ground forces. Should the gas chambers have been bombed? Do some research online and describe the arguments for and against. What would you have chosen? 3) There is a saying that “generals always prepare to fight the last war.” Do you think World War II was similar to World War I or fundamentally different? Compare and contrast the two struggles and support your argument with some examples.
