Short Listening Assignment 1   Assignment Description:   -Write your full name and class section. -Identify the assignment by title (usually name of performer(s) and / or event).   Make sure you identify the assignment type as Short Listening Assignment 1     – Write a one to two page (in double space, size 12 font) descriptive essay on your   musical appreciation of the assigned performance.                     Listen to the music at least, once before starting to take notes. I strongly recommend   to take notes during your second listening.    The essay will reflect the student’s unique appreciation of the actual performance as   well as the music played.   – Students should comment on participants’ dress code (uniform if any). – Students will identify and/or describe the type of the musical ensemble and/or  different families of instruments (timbre) present in this particular performance.                Is it an orchestra, a chorus, a chamber ensemble? – Students will describe presence of other basic elements of music such as tempo &  dynamics, type of melody. – Students should also name instrumental and or vocal solos in a particular piece, and  performance soloist/s (if any); which instrument or, group of instruments is playing the  melody.             – Identify which musical piece you are describing. This is a short performance that  only shows the orchestra with the guest soloist (Jofre) playing two compositions:  Jofre’s “Tangodromo 1” for bandoneon and strings and Astor Piazzola’s “Adios Nonino”                            – Students should reveal their own impression on the whole of the program and  structure of both the music played and players. – The mood of each piece may also be described and compare with the mood of  the other piece(s) played. Describe the style of playing.  Where there any encores?     It is important that you proof read the assignment.   There is zero tolerance for plagiarism. The worldwide known, award – winning Orpheus Chamber Orchestra was created in 1972.  “It is known for its collaborative leadership style in which the musicians, not a conductor, interpret the score .” The ensemble is based in New York City.
