You will post your paper to the Assignment below.  This is a formal written essay.  Please put your: Name Date Dance 235  Title of the Performance Write a 3-4 pages (double spaced) response to an online dance concert or the Dance in Dialog performance using the following guidelines from Feldman’s Visual Critique Guide. Watch the video at the bottom of this page.  Include: Introduction paragraph 3 supporting paragraphs  Conclusion Research: Find out additional information about the choreographer and their work. Look up one review. It can be any of the shows. If there are interviews, you can paraphrase comments, but be sure to indicate who was speaking.  Everything in the paper should come from your own observations and opinions. Be specific and don’t assume I know what you are talking about. Be clear the name of the choreographer and the title of the piece/show.    INCLUDE: Description, Analysis, Interpretation, Judgement   Description Name the piece and choreographer and describe the piece in terms of what you saw. You don’t have to answer all of the questions but use them as guidelines. Objective. How did the dancers use time? – Were the rhythms complex or simple? Were the dances fast or slow? Were the dancers in time with each other or were they working at different speeds? How did the dancers use space?  – What parts of the stage were used? Was there one part of the stage that drew most of your attention? Were the dancers close to each other or far away? Describe any themes or ideas the choreographer is trying to get across. How did the dancers use weight of the movement? Was there an overall quality to the movement or were there many qualities? Were there any patterns you noticed? What other theatrical elements contributed to the piece, including: costumes, lights, set and theatre space. How did the choreographer use humor and text in the show.  Interpretation What was your personal response to the piece? What did communicate to you? Research Look back on choreographers and dance styles that we have studied so far. What information can you use to support your analysis of the dance.  Additional research into the choreographers is also recommended. I do not want their biography or a list of their accomplishments, only information that is relevant to your analysis of the piece.   Analysis Include references to figures, styles and/or historical/artistic periods that we have studied to support your analysis. Use quotes from articles that we have read, or find additional ones to give more context to what you are observing and writing about. Please feel free to use the material already in the class.  Judgement Please try not to talk about the piece as to whether you like or don’t. Talk about your perspective of art and dance.  Grading Criteria The Paper is worth 12.5 points total  Paper is thorough and contains sufficient attention to choreographer dance piece and discussion. Observations about time, space, weight and quality are well articulated. The focus of the paper is primarily on the movement. Connections between the performance and the choreographers and concepts we have studied are well supported  Opinions are well articulated and thoughtful whether the response is positive or negative  Description, Interpretation, Research and Analysis are all included.  The paper showed evidence of sound writing technique and did not contain a pattern of grammatical errors  Use an MLA format.
