n your papers, I am looking for the following:   1.Defining the Problem –    State as clearly as possible what you hope to investigate. Give the history of the problem and any major impacts the problem is having on society. 2. Reviewing the Literature (Cite your Sources) –    Literature is the relevant scholarly studies and information that pertains to the subject you’re interested in researching. –    Reviewing the literature helps refine the problem under study, clarify possible techniques to be used in collecting data, and eliminate or reduce avoidable mistakes. –    Tell me what others are saying about this problem; prove it is a real issue using hard data and facts. 3. Formulating the Hypothesis –    A hypothesis is a speculative statement about the relationship between two or more factors known as variables. –    A variable is a measurable trait or characteristic that is subject to change under different conditions. Types of Variables: –    An independent variable is the variable that is hypothesized to cause or influence another. –    A dependent variable is the variable whose action depends on the influence of the independent variable. –    Write your own hypothesis, with an independent and depended variable, based on the literature you have found. For example, say you are interested in education and your research indicates that school bullying is a problem. A potential hypothesis: Students who are bullied at school have low GPAs. The independent variable bullying and the dependent variable is GPA. 5. Collecting and Analyzing Data (methods) –    A sample is a selection from a larger population that is statistically representative of that population. –    In a random sample, every member of an entire population being studied has the same chance of being selected. –    Tell me your population and sample, in other words, who you will use to conduct your research. Also, which research method you will use (survey, interview, observation, etc.).  6. Developing the Conclusion –    What type of solutions would you look at to make the problem better? For example, if we use school safety as a way to stop bullying, things we may want to look at implementing are: security personnel, anti-bullying campaigns, advocate clubs, etc.  These are ideas that might work, based again on the research of others. Be sure to cite your sources.   Remember this is only a proposal, so you need only to mention the necessary points. Exact details are not necessary as we are only seeking permission to do a study, not actually conducting it.     Helpful hint here: look at some research studies and see how they were set up.
