After reading all notes and instructions, please write your student Probation Violation of Probation (VOP): NOTES: The defendant from your probation report is now back in court because of an arrest related to violation(s) of probation You are no longer the probation investigation officer, you are the probation supervision officer of this case. Does your report resemble the sample style and structure? Do the dates make sense and comply with the dates and timelines of your case? Did you proofread? Did you remove any first person statements? Did you “Control + F” for apostrophes and remove contractions? Did you address whether or not the defendant admitted culpability, remorse? Do you conclude with a clear recommendation?  (In this case we are recommending state prison.  Perceptive students will review the template and see this will not be the probationer’s first violation, this will be his last while on probation.  We are sending him to the big house, finally.  (Some of you may be shocked, but what you are observing in this process can be accurate and realistic for many offenders in urban jurisdictions.  Monterey is a little more conservative and punitive in punishment than Southern California, San Francisco and Santa Clara counties.)   Writing Workshop with Checklist  (Links to an external site.) Upon completion of this report: you will have seen a realistic police report, written a realistic pre-sentence investigation report, and written a realistic probation violation report requesting a state prison commitment because corrections and rehabilitation efforts failed at the county level. FINAL NOTE: You should be aware of how many opportunities this offender has received to correct behaviors and address substance abuse etc.  I hope you can put the pieces together and get a sense of how the CJ system really works and that you find this has more value than writing an essay about the procedures that have taken place.
