PERSUASIVE SPEECH OUTLINE on Dangers of Smoking

Outline Parameters Your outline is required and should be submitted before you deliver your Persuasive Speech. Please read over the speech assignment page before beginning this outline. The outline should be typed and written out in full-sentence as if you were speaking to your audience. The following elements are to be included and labeled at the start or where appropriate (see Outline Template and Sample Outlines below): Topic: a problem(s) of international importance. Organizational pattern: Your main points should follow a problem-solution organizational pattern. This means you will include two main points only in the body of your speech. You should not use any other organizational pattern for this speech. General Purpose should be: To persuade Specific Purpose should be: To persuade my audience about [insert topic name (i.e., global warming)] Thesis should be written out in a one-sentence maximum and coincide with the speech topic and purpose. Four functions of your introduction and three functions of your conclusion Connectives before, between, and after each main point, meaning your main points should not discuss or use similar ideas.  Label and effectively use ethos, pathos, and logos. Label and effectively use four different types of supporting materials (i.e., facts, statistics, authorities, examples, analogies). 2-5 mutually exclusive main points with strong support from multiple levels of subpoints. All components of the outline are labeled and main/subpoints use the Harvard Outlining symbols.  Two or more APA formatted in-text citations A reference list in APA format with at least THREE published source materials cited within the outline. For example, you may find a book, movie, magazine article, and journal article.  You may also consider using a newspaper article, television show, radio talk show, and/or brochure, among others to support your speech. Keep in mind that some of these published sources may be housed online in an electronic format. In addition to your three published sources, you may incorporate a maximum of two .edu, .org, and .gov website sources. Do not incorporate websites that do not possess copyright dates and/or allow anyone to revise the material (i.e., Wikipedia).
