Conflict Resolution in Nursing

I need the essay to be in relation to the following case study … For the past 6 months, this medical-surgical nursing unit has a new unit manager. It is a busy unit, and the census is consistently high. In the past few months, there have been a number of patients who have required transfer to critical care units due to sudden changes in their acuity. Patient complaints about nursing care are increasing, and several staff members have transferred or resigned over the past year. Ramona is an RN with 17 years of experience. She works on this unit. She is a respected preceptor for new staff and fills in as relief charge nurse, as needed. Lately, the charge nurses are reporting that Ramona balks at her assignments and has been heard to complain that her assignments are too difficult. She is seen as rude in her interactions with the charge nurses and some of her peers, although this perception is subjective, as the choice of words she uses does not, on the surface, appear rude. Ramona’s charting has become inconsistent and incomplete. The charge nurses report that she has been reluctant to help her peers or the aides assigned to her patients. This new unit manager has recently received memos from several committee chairs that Ramona has not attended mandatory meetings over the past month. Ramona has also called in sick twice and been late to work twice in last 5 weeks. The charge nurses report that they have attempted to initiate discussions with Ramona about her behaviors and these issues, but she is not willing to engage in these discussions. They report that Ramona seems to ignore their efforts to work with her and help with any issues she has. They say she just stares at them till they finish talking to her and then walks away without comment or denies her comments were meant to be hurtful. She accuses the other nurses of being “picky” about her charting, says her documentation is better than most of the other nurses, and that all she is trying to do is help those other nurses by her comments. The charge nurses want the new manager to “fix the problem”.
