Description
You have picked a group that is moving to the US ( new jobs, international students, refugees, etc). You are tasked with creating a guide that will expand their knowledge and help the person integrate into US culture more quickly. This guide should demonstrate your understanding of concepts and theories from the textbook and demonstrate your ability to apply them to a specific intercultural scenario. Your guide is two-fold: Print Guide: • Information about the cultural group (2 pages- 25 points) o History, politics, demographic, geography associated with your group o Customs, beliefs, values, and norms widely held by your group. • Communication aspects of cultural group (2-3 pages- 25 points) o Cultural dimensions, high/low context, verbal/nonverbal codes, etc o How are these aspects similar or different to the US communication aspects? • Practical suggestions that will help your target group smoothly transition into the US culture.(2 pages- 25 points) o Should tie into communication aspects of culture • 5 points for page length, grammar, rigor, academic sources (6-7) (government websites and academic journals) **Please Include a work cited page in APA format. I selected 6 pages because that is how long the essay needs to be but I also need a work cited. If you cannot make that happen please include a list of sources and I can format it myself. **Attached in the files include 2 academic sources I found. Also the rubric talks about a video I have to film about the essay which is why I need it done by the 14th at 5:42 so I have time to read it and film the video. My professor has suggested we also discuss gender and sex differences in North Korea vs. the U.S as well as the dominant culture in the U.S vs the dominant culture in NK. I am basically assigned to create a cultural guide that gives background on the country and its culture, Use terms such as high/low context, verbal/nonverbal codes, etc. from the textbook “Intercultural Communication” written by James W. Neuliep ch.1-10. Topics I have considered discussing based on the viewpoint of one immigrant from north Korea include the country’s political standing and whether they are a political refugee or seeking asylum because it is unsafe in the country. Also the importance of food in North Korea’s modern culture, the black market for fashion, cosmetics, etc, what they eat vs what the U.S eats, their housing vs U.S housing, transportation, News regulations such as propaganda vs the U.S (freedom of speech) etc.
