Description
For your week 7 assignment – about 900 words, due Friday, November 20th by 11:59pm – you will draw on these videos and articles to interpret the “Political Typology Quiz” that is posted at the top of your week 7 module. Feel free to take the quiz, but this is not part of the assignment. Rather, please draw on this week’s videos and readings (and previous stuff, if you like) to interpret the world views and values that lie behind the typology questions. For instance, the first one asks whether “The government should do more to help needy Americans, even if that means going into greater debt” or “The government today can’t afford to do much more to help the needy.” In writing about this, you can recognize that the question is framed as economic (“debt” and “afford”), but contains the moral element of “help the needy.” Is “help the needy” a liberal or a conservative moral frame, according to Haidt and Lakoff? What are alternative moral frames? Does it matter (from a liberal or conservative perspective) how the needy became so? Should someone / something help, but not the government? What do we assume “help” looks like here? And so on. https://www.pewresearch.org/politics/quiz/political-typology/ https://www.newyorker.com/video/watch/morality-2012 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N07TQl5wHew https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5f9R9MtkpqM
