Description
We have read and discussed assigned works of literature throughout this semester. We have also engaged in discussions regarding the characters and historical figures. Having given you’re opinions of the characters/historical figures, highlighting specific parts of the text relating to them, discussed the reasoning of the character’s/historical figures’s thoughts/actions, or written assignments on them, you have been analyzing the character(s)/historical figure(s). When you are asked to write a character analysis, you choose a particular character/historical figure related with a work and discuss the motivations, choices, point of view, beliefs/ideas, and give your interpretation and opinion of that character/historical figure. Guidelines for Writing a Character Analysis Choose one (1) character/historical figure from ANY of the works that we have discussed in this class, dating back to the beginning of the semester. That character/historical figure must be one that you have found interesting, unique, and worthy of literary discussion. Your paper should have a thesis statement that will allow you to analyze the character/historical figure in some form rather than summarizing what the character/historical figure does in the story/life. The paper should possess a clear understanding of the character/historical figure and his/her point of view. You must NOT SUMMARIZE the story by explaining what the character/historical figure does, but you MUST focus on why the character/historical figure does such things, and concentrate primarily on the character/historical figure him/herself. You are to submit your paper typed in Times New Roman 12 point font, double-spaced, MLA formatted, by Sunday, November 15, 2020 by 11:59 p.m. This paper MUST be two (2) full pages long, and written in present tense. For this paper, you will need the text as a source as well as one (1) other outside resource on the topic. It may be an electronic scholarly journal resource, but it may NOT just be something you googled. You MUST properly cite your sources using MLA format. You MUST cite your source(s) in-text and on a Works Cited Page. This must be done in MLA format. If you are not familiar with MLA format, you need to review the MLA handout in the Course Information Module at the top of the Modules page and attend the JSU Richard Wright Center. You must also have a separate document uploaded that will connect to this assignment. That document is an annotated bibliography in MLA format. (Please see the handout uploaded to Canvas and your textbook for more information.) Plagiarism: If your paper illustrates any evidence of plagiarism, you will be given the grade of F. Some examples of plagiarism are: downloading a paper from the internet, using information and not giving credit to the source, or turning in another student’s paper. Please DO NOT put yourself in this situation. You will be caught if you are dishonest. Therefore, it is very important that you do your own work!!
