Racial Injustice (CEAP)

Description

Students are required to choose a current event in the news which is: (1) clearly connected to topics in the course curriculum and (2) pertains to either: a. COVID-19, b. the 2020 election, or c. the racial unrest in the Summer of 2020. Using class readings and assignments, students are to write a careful evaluation of the current event. Each paper should include: ¨ a brief, clear, and accurate summary of the news story (<250 words), and ¨ an analysis of three ways in which the news story explains (or is explained by) course materials. Analysis Using class readings and assignments, students are to write a thoughtful analysis of the current event. Analysis is likely to take one of two forms: (1) The media provides an example of a course concept in ways that help elucidate course material. (2) The course material elaborates, explains, or challenges the concept that appears in the media. In either case, for each concept, the paper should provide an analysis that integrates both the news media and course curriculum. A concept that only mentions just one will have points deducted. Structure Papers should contain four paragraphs.
