Description
Discuss and share with your peers’ new-found knowledge that YOU have learned in chapter 7. (For example; Did you know that most people have 46 chromosomes and receive 23 from each parent? or was that new information? Did you know that most people who have Down Syndrome have an extra 21st chromosome causing them to have 47 chromosomes? ) (150 words) then replay to these two students student 1 New knowledge I learned in chapter7 was “Tourette Syndrome”. Tourette Syndrome a condition of the nervous system, identified in 3 in every 1,000 children ages 6 to 17, and they estimate it to affect up to 1 percent of children internationally. It expresses tics, which are purposeless motor movements or irregular vocalizations that have a sudden and unpredictable onset. people with Tourette syndrome must have both motor and vocal tics that persist for at least one year, It appears between 5 and 10 years of age, and boys are three times more likely than girls. The period of most severe tic behavior is about age 10, The good news is with nearly half of the children becoming tic free by 18 years of age. The type and frequency of tics change over time and can appear and disappear. While tics decrease or disappear entirely for many after adolescence, some continue to have tics into adulthood. Education can help reduce negative beliefs about Tourette, improve access to health care, ensure a timely diagnosis, and ultimately help children with Tourette lead healthy and productive lives. student 2 I already knew about most of the disability because I work with special need children, but one of the syndrome that I didn’t know about, was Fragile X syndrome which is a genetic condition that causes mild to severe intellectual disability. They have behavior difficulty sometimes but the have respond to the treatment. They also have cognitive difficulty which means is hard to understand around them and they have learning difficulty like math concept. I was wonder the the most common behavior problem that they have, is anxiety. They struggle with attention deficit disorder and a hyperactive sometimes. It was interesting for me that Fragile X syndrome affects both males and females, but females usually have milder symptoms. They have some common behavior and disability with autism children like eye contact, social anxiety, social interaction, learning difficulty, and the treatment can be like autism treatment. It was interesting that gene therapy can repair the cell that damaged and they can treat them by injection to their brain.
