Discuss ideas about liberty found in the texts and artworks we have been studying from the 18th and 19th centuries. Be sure to have a specific thesis that you develop in a well-organized and well-supported essay. The introduction contains a clear statement of the thesis, sets forth the overall structure of the argument, and makes the reader want to read on. The organization of the argument is clear and easy to follow, with good use of topic sentences and transitions. The essay demonstrates a clear understanding of historical material and the relevant primary sources. The argument is supported by specific evidence, including appropriate quotations, taken from the relevant primary sources. All references to sources, including both direct quotations and paraphrases, are properly documented using the MLA system of in-text citation. The essay is written in a style that conforms to the conventions of standard written English. The essay is typed, double-spaced, and about three pages long, not including the Works Cited page.
