Written Analysis Criminal Procedure Ace and Carl were headed up Route 144 in Baltimore County near a high crime area and open-air drug market. Ace ran a stop sign, in full view of Dan, a K-9 police officer for Baltimore County , who was maintaining surveillance of the area. Dan put on his lights and sirens and pulled Ace over for his traffic violation. While Dan was issuing Ace a traffic citation, Dan ordered his trained, unleashed, and certified cocaine sniffing K-9 drug dog to do a perimeter search of Ace’s vehicle. The dog indicted a positive reaction to the presence of drugs. Dan ordered Ace and Carl to get out of the vehicle. Dan searched the car and found a duffel bag on the floor behind the driver’s seat with Ace’s nametag on it. Dan opened the duffle bag and found 500g of cocaine. Dan then turned his attention to Carl. Dan removed a fanny pack from Carl’s waist and found that it also contained cocaine. Dan arrested Ace and Carl and they have been indicted.
