Purpose The purpose of the discussion forums is to facilitate a classroom/community environment and discussion in an online space.  In order to have a civil discussion, you must always make community discussion forums safe spaces for genuine discussion.  Creating a hostile environment would violate the academic misconduct policy of this course.   There are three parts to each discussion, so you must pay attention to the all of the instructions. Learning activities Submit your introductory post/reply. Ask at least one question of two other students in a reply to their introductory posts. Answer the questions asked of you in replies to their question posts. Instructions How are you civically engaged in the community? This week is about political participation.  You must think about ways that you are engaged in your community.  For some people, they are actively engaged in church programs that feed the homeless.  Some participate in community environmental clean-up programs.  Others engage in political activism online and on the street.  People also donate money, time, or advice to help others.  What are the duties or activities that you engage in your community, and why do you do it? Almost all of you have done something to help your community.  If you think you have never done any form of civic engagement or have ambitious plans for the future you would like to share, please mention what you plan to do in the future and why you would do it.
