Your reflection should be approximately 2 pages, double-spaced, typed, and in Times New Roman font, size 12. You are expected to conduct external research. Please ensure that you submit a Works Cited according to MLA or APA. This should include the source or sources that you are drawing on for information about your current event. PART 1: Pick a current event that relates to content in the course (for example: The Idle No More Movement, The Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls, #metoo movement, etc.,). Your current event must have taken place within the last 10 years. Describe your chosen event by responding to the following questions: • Provide a summary of the current event in your own words • When did the event occur? Is the event ongoing? • What is the purpose of the event? What does the event raise awareness about? • Locate source(s) related to the event o What key points are mentioned by the writer or speaker? o Does the writer or speaker challenge common perceptions about your issue? If so, in what ways? o What assumptions are being made about the issue under discussion? o What is left out of the discussion? Why might this be important? o What is included in the discussion that you think is helpful? o In what ways do you agree or disagree with the points that are raised? o What new questions do you have after reading or viewing your source? • If you had the opportunity to meet the organizers or leaders of the event, what questions would you want to ask them about the event and about the broader issue? • How have individuals and groups reacted to the event? In what ways did it contribute to social change/social justice, if at all? PART 2: Connect your event to course content. Identify 3 concepts from the course and explain how they relate to your event. • Examples of concepts include but are not limited to: oppression, stigma, power, masculinity, femininity, resistance, agency, etc.
