Art Themes

Description

You will start by looking at your everyday surroundings. Look around your home, car, neighborhood, and objects you may have in your home. What around you can be used to visualize a category? Using your phone take images of the spaces, objects, and people that may fit in the following categories.  You will turn in 15 images total. One per category in each art theme. Some images you take will fit into more than one category and thats is okay.  You will place each image in a category of your choosing and answer the 4 questions below per photograph. Above all, I want you not only to look at these images as beautiful or ugly or random but as what you SEE and INTERPRET from them. Noting the possible meanings of these images and object and how someone else could have a completely different take on its context. You will need to take the photograph on your phone and add it to a google doc or word document. Label each photograph with it art theme and below the photograph answer the following 4 questions. Each photograph should have at least 100 word count answers for all 4 questions. Remember the more detail and thought presented in your image and descriptions the more confident you will be at LOOKING at art to SEE, UNDERSTAND, and EVALUATE.  ***********Place images onto power point and answer the following questions then upload here Categories in art: Conflict and/ or Adversity Gender Social Change Empathy Science and/ or Technology Nature and the Environment Identity Immigration and/ or Migration Industry, Invention, and Progress Beauty Futurism Sexuality Passage of Time Spiritual and /or Religious Politics and/ or  Community    On each image include the following… 1. Place the image in a category and describe why you believe it fits in that category 2. Describe the image. Go into DETAIL (overall image, color, line, focal point, etc)use as many elements and principles of art to describe 3. What are the possible meanings of the image? Disregard yourself as the owner of the image. If you were to see that same image in a gallery or museum what would you think the content is? Think about cultural context, symbolism, and viewer perceptions… 4. What’s your personal response to the image? How does it affect you? (opinion, emotion, and thoughts) Be sure to include why it evokes these feelings and thoughts. Note that when discussing your feelings, you must move beyond “I like it” or “I don’t like it”. Really describe how you feel about it if you saw this in a museum setting.
