Academic Response Essay

Using the editorial from the St.Louis Dispatch about fake news: write a formal response to it in the form of an academic response essay. FORMAT: This will have a formal written essay format (genre), use American Academic English and its conventions, and must include the following: *A thoughtful and effective two-part title with a colon including a “hook” (before the colon) and a second part (after the colon) to help the reader understand the purpose of your essay. *An introduction meant to engage the reader and establish the rhetorical problem that the essay addresses. You can choose one of the following: An interesting anecdote or attention-grabbing fact about the topic of the essay you’re responding to (so long as it’s related to the response you’re going to make). A direct approach (starting immediately with your response to the article.) Your clearly stated thesis statement in the introductory paragraph. This should include: an acknowledgment of the original article’s argument your own claim about that argument – whether it is accurate, shortsighted, wrong in some way, insufficient – and provide reasons why. A summary of the article  Your response to the article, demonstrating effective use of paragraphs, each with a key main idea in support of your thesis and driven by a topic sentence.  A conclusion that asserts what/how we should think about the article.
