Watch these two Videos and select one of the videos to provide a reflection on how issues of privilege, power, and inequality converge on race within the video case that you selected. How do you think your own personal youth and/or elder identity will affect your view of those who identify as the same and different than yours will impact your work as a social worker? My personal age identity will not affect my views of those who identify as the same or different. My sympathy started with my history working at a nursing home. I have seen elders going to social work to discuss how people talk down and mistreat them. Eventually people got fired. As a social worker, I will educated on ageism and how aga assumption has negative impact. Discuss how adultism or ageism is demonstrated within the videos and what are some of the barriers that the student/family experienced. Ageism is demonstrated age discrimation when there are 2 lines, line 1 is under 40 walk directly on the front and age 40 and up have to walk through winding paths of barriers just to get to the good. Most experience barrier was when the salesperson told a gentleman who has over 40 not-so subtle remarks and their patronage was’t particularly welcome. Aging line and assumption was disrespectful. Discuss the intersection of youth and/or elder oppression with other multicultural identities (ie. sex, class, age, race etc.) and how does this impact or how do you predict this will impact the child/family. The intersection of ageism made outrage, especially when Joyce said that she was let go from her job because she couldn’t fit in with their team. It was the most mindless. AARP videos really impact ageism negatively. Assumptions were some of the older people don’t know technology, which is not true. Lastly, discuss what micro, macro and mezzo recommendations/interventions might a social worker utilize to address youth or elder oppression that a client, community and/or organization may be experiencing or have experienced. At micro level social work skills to provide counseling and therapy agasim people to help them recover from age discriminations. Mezzo level social worker, involving by creating group counseling sessions on age discrimation and stereotype.Macro level social worker skills to ensure workplace or any other place to have protections against discrimationation ageism.
