This week, we learned various innovative expressions in the hip-hop of African American’s worldview and ideology, which also reflects the different social and cultural settings they are in. Can you also find a musical example that reflects the worldview, ideology, or feature of a certain place or a community in a certain period of time? Here is the instruction for this week’s discussion. 1. Choose the setting (You DO NOT need to use your nationality, but you can) e.g. Asian Amerian in California in the 1980s, New York in 1997… (Please try to stay in the U.S.) 2. Describe the social and cultural environment of that place or community of your choice. Of course, you can use Afrocentrism which we learned this week. It might be an easier one as you have references in the module to help you. Otherwise, you should do a little bit of research to support the description. 3. Attach the link of the piece of music of your choice and describe how it musically reflects the description you made in step 2.  Lyrics, melody, rhythm, production, artist, etc, are things you can think about.  Deadline: 11/3 23:59 Also, you should respond to one of your classmates this week. There is no word limit for the response to your classmates, but “I agree/disagree with you”, “good”, “excellent”, etc. are too simple. You can try to elaborate on your classmates’ answers, pose a question to him/her based on his/her answer, or anything that you think can help the class thinking together.
