What strategies did black slaves adopt in order to survive the institution of slavery? Look at the map above (click on the map to enlarge it). Where were slave rebellions most likely to take place? Under which system of labor (gang labor or task labor)? What does that tell you about slaves in areas that did not tend to revolt? Were they more docile? Happier?
