Summarize an academic article in MLA format

Description

This summary will assess your comprehension of the main claim and three key ideas from Academic Article 1, and your skill in communicating this comprehension. Summarize and/or paraphrase material from the article only. Everything that appears in the summary should be found in the article. Consequently, avoid commenting on the author’s conclusions or evaluating the strengths or weakness of the discussion. Remain neutral in your presentation of the author’s claim and ideas. In about 500 words, write four (4) paragraphs where you first present the author’s main claim and how you know it’s the author’s claim. Identify three key ideas from the article and fully explain how they develop the author’s main claim. Provide one quotation only for each key idea to illustrate the key idea. Then summarize or paraphrase other relevant ideas or details from the article to develop your discussion of each key idea. To assist your reader in identifying ideas that originate in the article, you should either use an in-text citation at the end of the sentence or use the phrase “[author’s name] states/claims/explains/etc”, or something similar, in the sentence, thus clearly attributing the idea to the author.   Summary Organization              In “[title of the article]” [author’s complete name] claims [restate the author’s claim; do not quote]. This claim is most evident in [add a quotation, with an in-text citation]. To  develop this claim the author states that [key idea 1], [key idea 2], and [key idea 3].  (50 words)             In sentence 1: succinctly summarize the first key idea; include an in-text citation. This idea should be explicitly connected to the author’s claim. In sentence 2: provide a quotation to illustrate the idea; include an in-text citation.  In the rest of the paragraph: explain how this quotation and the key idea support the author’s claim. (150 words)           In sentence 1: succinctly summarize the second key idea; include an in-text citation. This idea should be explicitly connected to the author’s claim. In sentence 2: provide a quotation to illustrate the idea; include an in-text citation.  In the rest of the paragraph: explain how this quotation and the key idea support the author’s claim. (150 words)           In sentence 1: succinctly summarize the third key idea; include an in-text citation. This idea should be explicitly connected to the author’s claim. In sentence 2: provide a quotation to illustrate the idea; include an in-text citation.  In the rest of the paragraph: explain how this quotation and the key idea support the author’s claim. (150 words) Transitions: Remember to add transitions between the sentences that explicitly demonstrate how the sentences are connected logically. These transitions will improve the cohesion of a paragraph. Also, provide transitions between the paragraphs. In the case of the latter, you could add a phrase like th following to each topic sentence: “The author goes on explain how [idea] contributes to [claim].”  Pronouns: do not use “I,” “we,” “our,” “you,” or “us.”
