Geography 1125 – Resources, Society and the Environment Term Paper 45 POINTS. Due in DROPBOX NO LATER THAN 10:00 PM on THURSDAY, 29 OCTOBER Must be typed, font 12, Times New Roman I. Objective: The objective is to write a THREE-page (double-spaced) paper (with reference page attached) on the same (or very similar) topic as your presentation topic. II. Requirements: a. Format of the paper. Provide a well-organized synthesis of your topic from a geographic perspective (i.e., what is where and why?). Start with an introduction, followed by a few paragraphs explaining the importance of your topic and the major issues affecting the situation and potential solutions, and end with a concluding paragraph. Make sure your paper is at least three pages, but no more than four. The paper will be graded for content (make it geographical), grammar, spelling, clarity, and organization. NO DIRECT QUOTES should be used. Also, ensure that you cite at least two sources in the body of the paper using parenthetical referencing (author, date). b. Sources: You must have at least four sources. Include these sources in a References page after the three-page paper (write References at the top of the page). The citations for these sources must be comply with APA guidelines (use the material available at https://libraries.indiana.edu/sites/default/files/APA_0.pdf to assist you with this). Double-space between each citation, and list them in alphabetical order. Below each citation, type the criterion (e.g., government agency, etc.) that this source fulfills. The sources must come from high quality, academic sources. These sources include peer-reviewed academic journals, books, government reports or agencies, and/or international agency papers/reports. You must follow these criteria: 1. At least one (1) of your sources needs to be from a governmental report or agency of some sort (e.g. Department of Commerce, Department of the Interior, US Census reports, etc.) 2. At least one (1) of your sources must come from a peer-reviewed academic journal. 3. At least one (1) of your sources must come from another peer-reviewed journal or a book. 4. The 4th source must be from any of the source types in 1-3 above or a national/international agency paper/report. These sources are NOT acceptable: 1. Popular commercial publications (i.e., Time, Newsweek, Wikipedia, National Geographic, newspapers, etc.). 2. Encyclopedias and dictionaries. 3. A video of any sort. 4. A “random” website that is not from a government or international agency. 5. Your textbook.
