Description
Module 4: Overview, Social Movements According my understanding of Massey, Social Movements happen outside what society would feel are legitimate governmental processes to address social issues. My understand why social movements can occur, in a democratic society, is because we have the freedom to assemble and we have the freedom to speak — although in my experience I understand there are some legal guidelines attached to it. You may have had some experiences with social movements. What is a social movement anyway? What makes a social movement a social movement or what are the components of a social movement? Can we judge if a social movement is successful or will be successful in creating social change? Is there such a thing as resisting social change? Massey will answer and discuss the questions outlined above. Once you read chapter 5, move on to the discussion. Module 4: Learning Tools Textbooks/Class Material Massey, G.
