Choose one of the books below, read it, prepare a 1,500 word (minimum) report in Word, double-spaced, 12 point Times New Roman font, standard 1-inch margins, page numbers and line numbers.  Include a one-sentence thesis statement at the top of your report and discuss how the book supports your thesis statement. Focus your assessment of the book on relevant real estate finance issues (broadly defined). Only Source can be the BOOK I do not want a book report that simply summarizes the book.  I want you to take a position (thesis statement) and discuss how the book supports that thesis.  If you want me to give you advanced feedback on your thesis statement, post it in the Clarification Station for this assignment.  Here is an example of an acceptable book assessment:  sample book assessment structure.docx Be sure your report is well-organized and well-written in third-person, objective, active voice.  Grammar and spelling mistakes will greatly affect your score. Boettke, Steven Horwitz, Lawrence Reed, Jo Allison, and John Allison.  (My kind of thinking!  Based on Austrian economic theory.) Free Our Markets:  A Citizens’ Guide to Essential Economics, by Howard Baetjer Jr.  (Perhaps the best book for this assignment!) Too Smart for Our Own Good: Ingenious Investment Strategies, Illusions of Safety, and Market Crashes, by Bruce L. Jacobs.  (Focus on Parts IV and V for your report.) A Colossal Failure of Common Sense: The Inside Story of the Collapse of Lehman Brothers, by Lawrence G. McDonald and Patrick Robinson.  (An engaging tale from the big dog at Lehman, especially if you are interested in a Wall Street career.) Shaky Ground: The Strange Saga of the U.S. Mortgage Giants, by Bethany McLean. (A decent accounting of events regarding Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, but a bit out of date.) Days of Slaughter, by Susan Wharton Gates. The Housing Boom and Bust: Revised Edition, by Thomas Sowell.  (Perhaps one of my favorite modern economists.) The Libertarian Mind: A Manifesto for Freedom, by David Boaz. (Aligns with much of my own political/economic thinking.) The New Urban Crisis: Gentrification, Housing Bubbles, Growing Inequality, and What We Can Do About It, by Richard Florida. The Subprime Solution: How Today’s Global Financial Crisis Happened, and What to Do about It, by Robert J. Shiller.  (One of the only prominent economists (besides me, but I am not prominent) who accurately predicted the housing market crisis based on observations of the growth in subprime mortgages.) Freefall: America, Free Markets, and the Sinking of the World Economy, by Joseph E. Stiglitz.  (Nobel prize winning economist, but not my favorite.) Confessions of a Subprime Lender: An Insider’s Tale of Greed, Fraud, and Ignorance, by Richard Bitner.  (An interesting read from the trenches of the primary mortgage market.)
