COLOR ASSOCIATION Goals and Objective: • Demonstrate an understanding of the color perception and behavioral response • Explore the application of design elements including color in the environmental design • Practice developing a color concept • Illustrate the color concept through the visual presentation board (a color mood board) Procedures: • Develop a color concept for the space chosen by your team (or individually) to associate with a color assigned by the instructor. • Create a color mood board supporting your concept. • Include a minimum of 5 design elements (in addition to Color) in your presentation. • Color Mood Board: o Select and save digital illustrations from online design magazines, the Internet, or photos. Make sure your pictures have a proper resolution. o Create a digital color mood board using any software of your choice (e.g., PowerPoint, Google Slides, Photoshop, InDesign, Canva, etc.) o Format: 14”x17”; Landscape (horizontal) orientation o Save your file as pdf or jpg. • Color concept: o Type your color concept and save it as pdf. o Include the following: Your ideas and reasons for the selection of the Space to associate with your color. Describe the elements you used to illustrate your conceptual ideas. Explain your rationale for the selection of the elements and how they support your color and space. What mood are you trying to create in the space? • Oral presentation: o Prepare an oral presentation to share your concept and a mood board with your classmates. o Every team member should participate. • Digital submission: o Upload files with a mood board and a color concept (files in right formats!) on Canvas; one upload from the team only. Evaluation Criteria: • Strength of the color concept, including color association reasoning and rationale for the selection of the design elements. • Quality of the visual presentation: composition and overall aesthetic success. • Quality of the verbal delivery of the color concept and the mood board illustrating conceptual ideas. • Completeness and timeliness of the assignment.
