Description

This will be an ongoing assignment which I will continue to invite you to until we have the completed research paper. Ive attached the annotated bibliography from last week that correlates with this assignment and tells you the topic of the research proposal (police officer involved shootings), the resources (you can add more if need be) as well as the template to use for this assignment: Unit 2: Research Proposal Chapter 1 Introduction No unread replies. No replies. Introduction In this assignment, you will begin drafting your research proposal. You will be developing the research proposal over the course of this class. The research proposal in its entirety will contain the following sections: Chapter 1 Introduction (Unit 2) Problem Statement Purpose Statement Hypothesis Chapter 2 Literature Review (Unit 4) Chapter 3 Methodology (Unit 5) Target Population Sampling Instrument References (Units 1-4) Appendix A Instrument (Unit 6) In this assignment, you will use Research Proposal Template provided to develop the assigned section.  Note: This course uses the discussion format for submitting content related to the research proposal. You are not required to post responses. This format allows you to see your classmates topics and resources. It also gives your instructor the opportunity to address issues that may arise after you submit the assignment on Thursday and provide feedback that concerns both individuals or the whole class. You will have the opportunity to make edits suggested by the instructor and resubmit by the Sunday final deadline without penalty to your grade for the assignment. You may find this helpful as your proceed through the course.  Directions Use the template provided to complete Chapter 1 Introduction (see explanation below) of the research proposal template. Format the chapter using APA style. Post the Chapter 1 Introduction to the discussion post by Thursday 11:59 pm CT. (You will have the opportunity to make edits suggested by the instructor by the Sunday final deadline without penalty to your grade for the assignment.) Address any instructor comments and questions for full credit by Sunday 11:59 pm CT. Chapter 1 Introduction  Introduction This paragraph should contain information as to the importance of the problem/topic you have selected, a brief background on the problem, and what you intend to research and why. This section should be at least 150 words. Problem Statement  The problem statement should allow the readers to understand why this particular study is important and how the study will attempt to answer contemporary, relevant questions in criminal justice. Your problem statement should be developed around the following statement stem: It is not known how or to what extent (fill in problem.) Example Problem Statements: It is not known how or to what extent bicycle patrol officers influence public opinion of police officers. It is not known how or to what extent community policing impacts the public’s perception of police.  It is not known how or to what extent social media influences college students’ perception of police. Purpose Statement Include a sentence saying “The purpose of this research is to examine how or to what extent…” under this section. Clearly identify the goal of the study in one precise sentence. Example Research Project Purpose Statement: The purpose of this research is to examine how or to what extent bicycle patrol officers influence public opinion of community police officers. The purpose of this research is to examine how or to what extent community policing impacts the public’s perception of police.  The purpose of this research is to examine how or to what extent social media influences college students’ perception of police. Hypothesis A hypothesis is used in an experiment to define the relationship between two variables. The purpose of a hypothesis is to find the answer to a question. A hypothesis presumes there is a relationship between the two variables in a way that can be tested with empirical data. In this research project you will use an “if, then” statement. The cause is called the independent variable; and the effect is called the dependent variable. If the independent variable is (increased, decreased, or changed), then the dependent variable will (increase, decrease, or change.) Example Hypotheses: If the police bicycle patrols increased, instead of cars, then community satisfaction with law enforcement would improve. If community policing is applied then the public’s perception of police is improved. If social media is not favorable then college students’ perception of police is not favorable.
