You are not telling a story, but are writing narrative non-fiction, which means you are telling more of an overview about what happened with some specifics. You are giving your narrative a purpose, which means that you will still have a thesis. You are making your narrative bigger than just the event. Remember that education can mean anything from parents to church to school, from book knowledge to common knowledge to moral knowledge to philosophical or political or real world knowledge. From the beginning of your earliest memory to already what has taken place this school year is fair game for you to write about, including a single event that taught you the most or defined who you are/are becoming to an overview of high points throughout your school/religious/personal life. What you include is up to you. It does mean that you will need to define the term education as it applies to your paper. When you are defining terms for something you are writing, you define those concepts, ideas, or terms in the paragraph/s immediately after your introduction. What this does rhetorically is to confine your reader to a box of which he or she must think inside while reading your paper. You are controlling your reader’s thinking even before making your case. First person as a sentence starter is not allowed Do not define education like you are a dictionary. Your writing should be being pushed beyond, “Education means…” In order to do this academically, describe different forms of education that you can see, but then, like the Diana paper, say which one is the most dominant, or important, or lasting, etc. You may, for this paper only, refer to your own paper at this point if necessary
