Mother Wit

In the modern world we frequently overlook or undervalue the important lessons of history. This knowledge through “lessons learned” is sometimes called “mother wit” (literally wisdom from mothers). It is passed down in the familial settings by relatives or elders through folk sayings or proverbs.

This assignment will also provide an opportunity for an introduction to your writing style. Please provide a saying or phrase used by someone in your ‘family’ circle that provides wisdom.

In a proper paragraph (3-5 sentences) provide an explanation to the phrase you share. For example, my grandmother would always say….’a hard head makes a soft behind!….meaning that one’s stubbornness will lead to learning the hard way and may result in pain’. If the phrase is in a language other than english provide a translation. What is your experience with this piece of wisdom over the years?
