creating a small non profit organization

Description

This project  has several parts. You will be evaluated on each part of this project along with additional components at the end of each week and then at the end of the quarter.   You are creating your own non-profit this quarter. You will be the CEO. You will need several people to be part of your organization. You can choose people from the Year Up program to be part of  your organization or you can recruit from the community or even from your family and friends. You should have at least 4 people (with names, titles and job descriptions for each). Identify each person looking at their background as it pertains to their role in your organization and what their role will be in your organization. This information should be listed in the appropriate location of your project.  This and the answers to the following questions will be included in at least one of your project assignments.  Project 1 – Word (This is the starting project document that will become part of your project scope)  What is the name of your organization?  What does your organization do?  Who does your organization serve? What barriers do you think those people will have and how will your organization help them?  How much money do you think you’ll need to start this organization?  Who/which companies would you like to solicit for money? You can use the Year Up internship list for companies, if you’d like.   Create a letterhead for your company. Be creative, but professional. Use style (whatever this means to you), color and a border  on both the letterhead and on the document. Include your company’s name, your name as CEO, location, phone number, email address and web address. You can make up the last three items, but use a real location for your company’s physical address.   On this letterhead, create an introduction letter for each of the companies you are planning to solicit for funds to run your organization. In the body of the letter be sure to include how much you are requesting from them, how you plan to use the money and who the money will serve and why they deserve it.  Mail merge the 5 companies you plan to solicit with their names and web addresses. Include both the main letter and the mail merge in your document upload.  Project 2 – Outlook:  Create a group for your employees in Outlook. Create tasks for them to complete. Snip and include the group and tasks for each person. You can copy and paste these snips into a Word document for upload.  Once you’re done with the other parts of the project, use your group list in Outlook to email them the Word, Excel and PowerPoint parts of your final project. Snip and include this email with your project data. You can copy and paste this snip into a word document for upload.  Project 3 – Excel:  Create a workbook with an appropriate title.  If you have $100K in contract money from those companies, consider the next questions for part of your project.  Where will you house your organization? Look for offices online and gather both locations and rental amounts.  How much salary will you take for yourself and your staff?  How many people will you serve in the first month?  How much money will you allocate for each person?  What overhead costs will you have? Think electricity, water, sewer, rent… look online for those costs and have those costs available for your project.  On the first worksheet, create a spreadsheet of your monthly expenses for the company based on your research for rent, electricity, water, sewer, salaries for your employees (and yourself).   Project the monthly expenses for the year. Make sure your money is projected for each month and fully spent.  Apply a theme to the worksheet – color code and apply styles your columns, rows, title headers and text for each column and row (apply the skills you learned in your Excel projects to make the workbook as professional as possible). Name the worksheet and apply a style to it.  Add a second page with a graph showing how the money will be used. Change the colors and theme to the graph to suit your own style.  Project 4 – PowerPoint:  Using the answers from the questions at the beginning of this page, create a PowerPoint that you would show to prospective investors in your company. This PowerPoint should be at least 10 slides including a title and conclusion slide, with theme, color, pictures that are appropriate for the topics, transitions between slides, animation for each slide, timings and smart art.  Upload your documents when you’ve finished. You’ll have time in class on December 2 and 4 to complete this final project, although you are welcome to start or complete it off campus.  Project 5 – Project  Scope the project, determine the schedule, timeline, ES, EF, LS, LF and lag times. Determine your resources needs, budget needs, estimated costs and actual costs (as close as possible) and then determine if it will need an RFP or proposal from other contractors. If you will need to send out an RPF or proposal, be specific about what you will need (hint: You’ll be creating this RFP later, so the more work you put into it now, the better off you’ll be later.)
