Description
Book Review Assignment The required text for this course, Without Conscience: The Disturbing World of Psychopaths Among Us, by Dr. Robert Hare, supports the segment of this course that relates to psychopathic behaviour. While psychopaths make up a small percentage of offenders you will work with in corrections, they are the most dangerous, difficult and manipulative type of offender you will have to deal with. For this reason it is especially important to understand these unique individuals. In order to complete this assignment successfully, follow these instructions: 1. Read the book. 2. Complete a formal paper following APA guidelines (typed, double spaced, 1-inch margins, etc.). Length: 5 to 7 typed, double-spaced pages. 3. The paper must cover the following topic areas. Please use these titles as sub-headings: Introduction General overview of the book Etiology of psychopathy; be comprehensive but concise The results of psychopathic behaviour e.g. what a psychopath does to the lives of those around them, the consequences one may experience when crossing the path of a psychopath (physically, mentally, emotionally, financially, in terms of reputation, etc.), or any other results you would like to discuss. Treatment of psychopaths as in, can they be treated, cured, or ‘fixed’ in any way. If so, how? If not, why not? Cautionary notes Dr. Hare provides some cautions about psychopaths both in general and regarding diagnosis. You should discuss these, but can include any other cautionary notes you feel are relevant.
