Description
The idea here is to get beyond the assigned structure of the writing assignments (the essays will have pre-determined topics) and allow each of you to write about whatever you see fit with certain limitations. Surely, while you are doing the readings and going about your business, you will think of things that you may want to write about that there is no writing assignment for. Hopefully, the journal will allow you to venture out into that less structured territory. While you will only be required to write about one big, fat paragraph (at least 300 words) every two weeks, you are free to write as much as you like. You are free to write about anything you want as long as you write at least 300 words and the topic you choose is ‘philosophically interesting’. That means you should try to write about something controversial, uncertain, or ethically difficult. It can be something that’s happening to you personally, or something national or global. Doesn’t have to be about the class material or anything that we’re doing or from the book. Don’t report, so much as evaluate and analyze.
