Description
Exam Directions (50 pts. total): Select one (1) of the following sets of questions and write a brief essay on each in paragraph form answering each question selected using formal essay style, a thesis, complete sentences, and correct spelling, grammar, and sentence structure. Each essay must be between 2-3 pages, double-spaced, one-inch margin all around. Neither listings nor “blocks of information” are considered proper paragraph formation. Do not use vague generalizations; be specific in your answers. Students must identify the question being answered with its requisite number from the exam sheet. No credit will be given to responses to questions that do not appear on this exam. Your essay responses to both questions must be submitted as one Microsoft Word file to the exam’s Turnitin box. Your essays are due on July 24, 2020, at 11:55 p.m. CDT – no later!!! Responses to questions not listed on this exam page will receive no credit. 1. Perhaps the most significant myth coming out of the Civil War and Reconstruction eras was the “Myth of the Lost Cause.” Analyze and explain the origins of the “lost cause” and the role this myth played during Reconstruction. Explain fully. 2. Social historians have, since the 1980s, detailed the roles of women and African Americans during the Civil War era. Were their roles passive or active? How did their roles help to shape the Civil War amendments to the United States Constitution? Explain fully and in detail.
