Description
Chapter 7 Journal: Select a new job family within the organization that you are imagining for your journal exercise. This must be a job family that you have not already been writing about in earlier chapters. For example, if you wrote about the job of physical therapist in a previous chapter journal, do not choose that job again for this chapter. Select a job that has multiple people working in the role, and write a brief description of the job as your introduction to this journal. A. Imagine that the organization has not had a formal job performance management system in place for people who do this job, and you have decided it is time to implement one. Write out two reasons that you would give to upper management (or the board of directors) to explain why it is important to have a performance management system and process in place. B. Imagine that you are beginning to discuss ideas for the new performance management system with people who currently work in the job that you selected. You find that they are cynical or concerned because of their prior experiences with performance management in other organizations. Select two areas of concern, or issues (such as rating errors), that you believe will be important to address in order to make sure that this performance management system is effective. C. As you begin to work to build the performance management system for this job family, what do believe is the best approach for collecting data about job performance (among the choices provided in the text)? Explain why you selected that approach, and how you might implement it. D. Once you have collected data about performance, you then need to translate that data into some sort of appraisal format that you will use to evaluate and communicate with the employees. Consider the options provided on pages 188-196 and identify the approach that you would recommend, and explain why and how you would implement it.
