Consider the problem you identified for your Context Project, and then complete the following steps. Refer to the Wr39c Advocacy Research GuideLinks to an external site. on the library’s website, as well as the Library Research: Advocacy Resources page. Turn in every item that is in boldface. Section A Look in CQ Researcher or ProCon.org and try to find information that relates to your topic. Write a paragraph describing what you found, and discuss how this information might influence your next steps for the advocacy project. (For example, does this help you define a solution? Does it help you understand various positions and their arguments/counterarguments?) Section B Find at least two policy papers about your topic using one of the resources discussed in the Advocacy Resources page (think tank search, state legislature, congress (congress.gov) article database, newspaper database, etc). Write a citation and 4-part evaluationPreview the document for each policy paper, which you will add later to your Annotated Bibliography. Consult the Citation Research GuideLinks to an external site. for tools that may help you with this. (Hint: policy papers are cited as “reports” unless they are published in a more standard place like an academic journal.) Include in that evaluation a few sentences discussing the publishing organization (such as a think tank) associated with the policy. Based on what you learn about this organization, how might the information in the policy paper be biased? Section C Write a brief reflection (5 min) about your search process, and what you think you need to do next.
