You will need to read and write quickly. There are two questions for the midterm. Pace yourself and leave enough time to complete both tasks. Use the textbook for templates. Open book, open notes. As usual, spelling, grammar and active voice writing is critical. 1. Write a 200-word memo (approximately 1-page excluding the top of “memo” format). Write a summary of pages 40-41 “The Mouse that Knows You” Address the memo to Dr. Jon Smith on today’s date. Use the steps “Preparing a Summary” on pages 374-376 to proceed to write the summary. The steps – #5 Put into your own words, #6 Write in fair, clear and concise language and #7 Identify sources you have summarized will be the primary criteria for grading. Be sure your summary is ethical (p. 376). 2. On page 233, do exercise # 16. Rewrite the letter by saying “Yes” – meaning you will comply with the request in a positive manner. Use the checklist on page 230 for Letters saying “yes.” Write a single page “adjustment” letter (see pages 208 – 215) of approximately 150 – 200 words.
