RESEARCH PAPER ASSIGNMENT: Choose a disease or other pathological condition affecting a body system from those being studied in this course. Research the disease using the internet, library, and/or textbooks/journals available. Present the findings of your research as a paper. Use the guidelines below to direct your research and write your paper. RESEARCH: You may use the internet to guide you to references or give ideas for discussion, but do not copy/paste information verbatim. Failure to cite constitutes plagiarism. Plagiarism is unacceptable. Your paper will be processed using SafeAssign, a plagiarism prevention service, offered by Blackboard (refer to grading rubric below for more instructions and penalties associated with plagiarism). You must use at least four to five research articles related to your topic. Remember to select articles from reliable and reputed sources in your research. You must include a bibliography at the end of your paper, listing each reference used in either APA or MLA RESEARCH PAPER FORMAT: Type your paper as a Microsoft Word document. Save it as your Lastname-Title of Paper, for e.g. if my paper would be on Leukemia , it would be saved as Case-Leukemia Paper should be a minimum of 7- 8 pages in length. Set the margins of your document to 1 inch on all sides. Double-space the text of your paper. Use standard first line indent for new paragraphs. Use 12 pt. font maximum, Times New Roman or equivalent. No title page is necessary: In the upper left-hand corner of the first page, list your full name, your instructor’s name, the course, and the date. Double space again and center the title of your paper, write the title in Title Case (standard capitalization), not in all capital letters. Create a page footer that includes your last name, followed by a space with a page number; flush with the right margin. Follow all standards for written English (spelling, grammar, etc.) and proofread your document before submitting. You must include at least 2-3 appropriate and relevant graphics/illustrations in your paper and it should be appropriately cited as well. You must include a bibliography (APA or MLA style) at the end of your paper, listing each reference used (see links above for citation guides). RESEARCH PAPER CONTENT: The focus of your research should be on the anatomy and physiology of the disease. You should describe the anatomy (structure) and physiology (function) of the chosen body system in a normal, healthy individual and then compare it to a person who is affected with the disease and the dysfunction in the normal (under introduction and signs and symptoms). Your paper should be supported with 2-3 appropriate and relevant graphics/illustrations: Your paper must address the following topics: Introduction – Introduce the disease with a general description and overview of what it is. Signs & Symptoms – Describe the signs and symptoms common to the disease. Prevalence and Statistics – Include basic statistics that describe how common the disease/disorder is and whether it occurs more commonly in certain populations/gender. Cause – Explain the cause (if known) of the disease/disorder whether genetic, Cause – Explain the cause (if known) of the disease/disorder whether genetic, caused by a pathogen, congenital etc. Risk Factors – Discuss what factors could make a person more susceptible to the disease. Prevention – How it can be prevented or why not Tests and Diagnosis – How is the disease diagnosed, list all diagnostic tests/procedures that can be used to determine if a person has the disease. Discuss any one test in brief. Complications – Discuss and major or minor complications that may develop in a person suffering from the disease. Treatment and Drugs – Discuss all treatments that can be used to help the patient. Treatments may include medication, lifestyle changes, surgery, physical therapy, and others. Discuss any one in detail. Prognosis – Discuss the typical course and outcomes of the disease, the likelihood of recovery from the disease, or possibility of death.
