This is one of three assessments in this course based on interactive labs. Follow the instructions within the lab to walk through various situations that demonstrate the particular topics discussed within the course. SHOW MORE Toggle Drawer Context The Nervous System The first aspect of the nervous system to consider is the anatomy of the nerve cell and how electrical signals travel along the axon of the cell. This is a good place to start because it illustrates generally how all nerves work. Another concept relates to the central versus the peripheral nervous systems. The central nervous system forms associations and responses, and the peripheral nervous system is a pathway for signal transduction. The nervous system is specialized, in that there are different types of nerves. For example, some nerves carry signals to the brain while others carry messages from the brain. Some nerves control voluntary action and others are strictly involuntary. SHOW MORE Toggle Drawer Questions to Consider To deepen your understanding, you are encouraged to consider the questions below and discuss them with a fellow learner, a work associate, an interested friend, or a member of the business community.
